Server Questions

     There are a whole lot of server questions on this list which I 
avoid because my Linux is my own everyday computer  and it is now 
version 10.04 Desktop. But wonder how the server systems take care of 
turning them on and off, and do they have Firefox?

     I do realize a server is left turned on 24/7 but it must get 
updates like I do. How does a server do this?
