Could not mount ntfs partition in Ubuntu 9.10

Hi All,

I have a 250GB SATA harddisk with two 125GB ntfs primary partitions.
When I boot up my computer using a Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop CD from cdrom, I
could see my 2 ntfs partitions using the command "fdisk -l" in a root
terminal. But I could not mount any of these 2 partitions using the command
"mount -t ntfs /dev/sda1 /media/windows -o rw". The root terminal prints out
an error message : "ntfs-3g: Failed to access volume '/dev/sda1': No such
file or directory".

When I look into /dev, I could only find /dev/sda, but not /dev/sda1 or
/dev/sda2.

What additional procedure(s) should I perform to gain read / write
access to my 2 ntfs partitions. Any suggestion ?

Regards
Lawrence
