Connect to the internet via a USB Stick on Ubuntu 9.04

Perhaps I didn't make my question clear enough.
Ubuntu is installed on my Acer laptop. I can connect to the internet
via the Ethernet and wireless, but when I try to connect to the
internet via USB Connect Stick; Ubuntu dose not recognize the stick.
