Question on Choosing Netbook - looking for experience

My roommate bought an Acer Aspire One last year. He has been running
the pre-installed Windows XP on it up until this week. He booted it
into UNR 9.04 two days ago and reports that all hardware works
correctly except for 3d acceleration, which he has not yet tested.
Also the netbook cannot access shared folders on a local Ubuntu 9.10
machine- it detects something called "Windows Network" (our network
has a different name) with no hosts detected.
He reports that in the year or so since he's had the machine the
battery has lost about 20% of its capacity, which seems about standard
AFAIK.
