How to indicate paths

Yes, you are right, I found the volume "Speicher" under /media/.
And the neat trick with dragging the relevant icon into the box, where I 
am supposed to enter the path also worked fine
(I got there: file:///media/SPEICHER/Dictionaries)
BUT ....
the path still does not work. I get the same error message: "Failed to 
open directory /SPEICHER/Dictionaries"

What else could be needed here??

When I enter just "/" and press enter, the computer does **something** 
(you can hear it work and see the access lamp flash), but there are no 
messages, changes
or any other clues as to what it is doing. After a while the activity stops.
But as far as I can tell, nothing has changed or happened.
Does that mean, the computer has searched the files but did not find 
anything?
