FWIW, I get my printers free through Freecycle, an organisation active
here in the UK and, I believe, in the US.  People who have something
they don't want offer to give it away to somebody who wants it, rather
than increasingly fill up landfill sites.

You would be surprised at the number of people who offer to give away
printers because they've run out of ink.

You just have to google to make sure there are no issues with Linux (ie
the printer is too old), but I have never had a printer that didn't
work under Linux.
