Yes it is. Could be because I already had gvfs + other files installed
from my earlier work with gtkpod etc. Did you already have those
installed prior to using the ppa?

What is of concern though is that the ppa version completely removed my
standard Ubuntu versions from the system & they were no longer even
listed in Synaptic. Hence the reason I had to download the .debs
directly from http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/gvfs etc.
