cannot access cd/dvd

I just installed ubuntu 9.10 on my computer. I now have a dual boot
system with windows being the other operating system.  I noticed after
loading 9.10 there was no icon under computer in Places and therefore I
could not access my cd/dvd drive.  Device Manager showed that the
optical drive was there and listed the spec's.

What also puzzles me is that I had used the optical drive to install
9.10

How can I access and use my cd/dvd drive?
