Thanks Guys,

I have got devilspie to work by turning off compiz (and all other effects).

Does anyone know why the "Place Windows" options doesn't work? I really
like the look of compiz -- but for this application placing windows in thier own
workspace (or viewport as compiz calls it) would be really helpful. Could it
be related to not being able to type in any window when compiz is running?
ie: use Alt-F2 to open the run program window, can't type in the box, but I can
select apps that are already listed. Or I can start up rxvt, but can't actually
type in it. Really strange, wonder if this is related to the window placement
problem.
