install ubuntu without deleting data

Hi,

There is a situation.

I accidentally lost ubuntu desktop.

What i was doing is trying to beautify my ubuntu instance by installing some
themes.
and after installing few themes, i decided to uninstall those themes. and
once i did uninstall; every thing is screwed.

I am able to login in my account but all i get is a tiny terminal on left
top of screen.

can you help me out of this
