I agree with you, but when we are dealing with a total beginner, the
”sudo apt-get package-x” instruction will probably lead to the
question ”Where to I enter that?”, and we have to explain how to open
a terminal. On the other hand, once the newbie learned that, we don't
have to explain it any more, at least not to that person…

And if the newbie uses Ubuntu (or other distribution that uses the
gnome-terminal by default), he also has to be told that pasting into a
terminal is not done by Ctrl+v, but rather Shift+Ctrl+v… (unless
Ctrl+v is specified in the terminal preferences)
