I see your point now. Answer is no to all. You have to first select
character in gucharmap then double click it to add to text or some other
approved method. Trying to change that to single click mode will never
work IMO as it is coded into the program. About same for zim, you have
to do it the way the program is set up to do it. This is not the same
thing as starting a program by single clicking a program icon so I think
it's futile to try getting what you want. but, I'll be watching just in
case you succeed.
