Indeed I did, but that was before I updated to Karmic (sorry I didn't
make that clear).

But I tried changing permissions on the firmware, and this was the
trick I should have tried before venting my frustration on the list.

Take it that this particular technical problem can now be shown as
SOLVED. My hair thanks the list 8-]
