I use pan for news lists; my mailer is Evolution and it doesn't seem to 
give me the threading ability Pan does.  Maybe I just don't have it set 
up correctly.  The only drawback to Pan, in my mind, is that you can't 
see the original headers.  When others on the list catch the fact that 
someone is not subscribed I envy that capability.
