DSL Support in Ubuntu 9.10 (AEI Canada)

After running pppoeconf and accepting all of its suggestions, I am now 
connected to AEI!!!  Although Network Manager still tells me the Wired 
Connection has failed and that there is NO Connection, even though there 
is a working PPPoE Connection...  Does that imply there is a "Fault" with 
9.10's Network Manager or that pppoeconf has done some tweaking which 
previous releases of Network Manager were able take care of themselves???
