In general, the drivers are included with the kernel of Linux. So kernel
updates tend to bring you the most up-to-date drivers.
In addition, you have specific packages for specific drivers.
For example, should you have an NVIDIA graphics controler, you can
download the lates (proprietary) drivers from :
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us where you will see
that there are 32 and 64 bit drivers available.
Ubuntu also does a nice job of telling you if your system uses hardware
for which proprietary drivers are available and enables you to install
them directly from a nice GUI.
So there is no single answer... you mileage may vary... This is just
like the OSes from Redmond... which come with a bunch of drivers, but
you can still also download specific drivers from the vendors sites (if
/ when they support that OS).
