When you subscribed to the list, you should have read this sentense :
"Please respect the Ubuntu Code of Conduct
<http://www.ubuntu.com/community/conduct> when posting to this list."
which is at https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-users right
above where you entered your own mail address.
This Ubuntu Code of Conduct (http://www.ubuntu.com/community/conduct)
states clearly :
*"Be respectful.* The Ubuntu community and its members treat one another
with respect. Everyone can make a valuable contribution to Ubuntu. We
may not always agree, but disagreement is no excuse for poor behaviour
and poor manners. We might all experience some frustration now and then,
but we cannot allow that frustration to turn into a personal attack."
Obviously, your last paragraph is none of that. You should :
1) Be ashamed of yourself for clearly not adhering to the code of
conduct of a mailing list you subscribed to.
2) Consider if it's really the place where you want to contribute
We might not all agree with Karl in everything he says... but we should
all "Be respectful".
Also, about replying in private. The same code of conduct states (at the
bottom, "Mailing lists and web forums" paragraph) :
1. "Please use a valid email address to which direct responses can be
made."
This is specifically because when people disagree and it gets too nasty,
things can be taken "off-list" and "in private" in order to solve
differents. When people do so, you either step down or continue in
private. But it's very bad behavior to take something sent in private
back to a public forum.
In fact, in some countries, it's plain illegal to make public something
that was sent to you as a private message.
Consider your adherence to the code of conduct, and the implications of
having implicitly accepted it when you signed up in your future
responses, please. It's better for everybody.
Heck, it's even better for our favorite K5DI :)
Gilles.
