home files on desktop

KDE or Gnome? 

For KDE, right-click on the Desktop, select Folder View Activity Settings and go to Locations. You can specify which directory is displayed.

One of my users managed to display all her $HOME files and dirs on her desktop, 
although ~/Desktop is empty. How can this happen?
