Are you sure that you didn't forget the port number 80?
Because for the web server, there is no difference at all between a
connection from a browser and a telnet connection on port 80. A Wireshark
logging of that network traffic would be almost identical, the only
difference would be the speed because with telnet you type the commands
manually.
If you can't connect directly to port 80, do you have some kind of
firewall or proxy that does "funky" stuff?
