Windows likes to be the first partition on the hard drive. You need to
boot into windows and defrag your drive so that when you shrink the
first partition containing Windows to create a second one for Ubuntu
it doesn't corrupt any files during the shrinking process.
It should be as simple as booting to windows, running a defrag then
booting the ubuntu CD.
But with all these things back your stuff up first, if you live CD was
scratched for example and it crashed half way through you could be
buggered. Backups backups backups; some bloke once said "if you data
isn't in at least two places, it isn't anywhere"
