I do not believe that the OS is at fault.  I am running a new MS 
wireless Keyboard and mouse combo and both are wireless and the center 
wheel works flawlessly.  It is going to be particularly difficult to 
give you a definitive answer because your post is lacking in critical 
information.  You seem to not have attempted to analyze it yourself 
because you say nothing of the age of the product and you do not mention 
anything about the activity lights on the receiver.

I am also running Karmic but as I've stated, without incident.  A bit 
more input from you will help everyone to help you.
