As I pointed out elsewhere, there are many reasons for MySQL to run... 
and a LAMP stack is one... but many apps use it as a back-end.

And... it's only using 17% CPU. That's hardly a reason to sweat. :)

I'm more interested in a screenshot when his machine is loaded at more 
than 30% CPU. He claims the machine comes to a crawl... which is not 
what his "top" screenshot seems to depict...
