prevent suspend / hibernate when streaming

hi,

I use my ubuntu 8.10 machine has a stream server. i would like it to be able
to suspend when i'm not streaming anything from it. I tired using the power
management options, but the maximum it can wait before suspending is 1 hour
(next option is to never hibernate). however, this causes the desktop to
suspend every 60 minutes irrespective of whether i'm streaming music from
it, or logged in via vnc / NX / ssh.

i want it to suspend so that i'm not wasting power when i don't use it, but
i also want it to remain alive while i am remotely logged in or streaming.
How can i achieve this?

thanks!
hypo
