Lost Sound with Upgrade to 9.10

I have the same issue.

On my laptop (HP Pavillion 6523a) actually the sound comes and goes. When I
open Preferences then Hardware sometimes the device is there in a list some
other there's not.

the lightof mute is always on meaning it's mute but when I put up Ubuntu
says the sound it's on where it actually not....

Any fix?
