Skype - 8.04 LTS 64 bit

Odd behavior. Went through the install from skype for 2.0 B for Ubuntu 8.04+
64 bit. Install went ok. Launch skype and selected the 'echo 123' to test
sound,etc. Skype dies.
Installed the static version in my home directory. Same results.
Wondering if anyone else is seeing this. I use Skype regularly for school
meetings.
