Simple Compiz Config Manager (Glide 3 Setting) - freezes desktop on window opens

To my surprise, that GUI opened so I set the option to None and it appears
to have stopped the desktop freezes.

But it exposed another set of problems starting from the same incident:

  - icons/documents that were on desktop are missing
  - file manager will not open
  - trash can will not open (seems a maximizing frame animation appears and
disappears)
  - can not right-click dialog box from desktop


So seems something was corrupted in the Glide 3 incident, but i'm not sure
what system was affected.  Something related to Gnome, Nautilus, Compiz.
