Simple Compiz Config Manager (Glide 3 Setting) - freezes desktop on window opens

I can not use the GUI interfaces, as the desktop freezes on their launch
(and a few other dialog boxs); I can use FireFox at the moment, but if I
save an image using a dialog box for example, the desktop freezes when I hit
OK.
