They will detect you are running windows. And if you need to run IE they 
will detect that as well.

Windows in a VM is just windows, no different. The VM is just a 
particular 'hardware' configuration like any other.

The only things that might not work well in a VM are things that require 
hardware video acceleration, as this is not supported as well, if at all 
(depends on which VM application you use). So don't expect OpenGL or 
DirectX games to work as well, but if all you want is things like web 
browsing, email etc. then these limitations are not an issue at all.
