Give us an example how you try to open a ftp site in firefox, please.

Normaly, it should work if you enter ftp://domain.name.tld in the
address bar fo the browser. In my example, domain.name.tld is a
placeholder, important is to prepend the domain name with ftp://, which
tells the browser to use the ftp protcol to open that site.
