I've got similar issues which pop up from time to time. Moments of
really slow performance that don't last long but are annoying.
I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 right now. My computer is a custom build from
several years ago. Here's my specs...
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2000+ 1.2GHz
RAM: 1GB PC2700
Mobo: PC Chips M848A 333MHz FSB
GPU: 8x AGP Nvidia Geforce FX 5600 w/256GB RAM
HDD1: Seagate 160GB ATA100 (don't know the RPMs) EXT4 file system
HDD2: Maxtor 80GB ATA100 (don't know the RPMs either) EXT3 file system
Optical: NEC DVD-/+RW (single player only)
Sound: Sound Blaster Live 24-bit PCI
NIC: Realtek 10/100 Ethernet
Would I be better off running Xubuntu with this hardware?
Also, I have a visual disability and rely on the desktop zoom and
color inversion features of the Compiz GLX accelerated desktop. Can I
use that in Xubuntu with Xfce?
