Xorg often taking a lot of CPU, whole system slow

i've noticed this on my 9.04 system also.  it only happens when i decide
to send an e-mail through Tor in thunderbird.  if anyone has used Tor
before, it is rather slow.  so, sending an e-mail can take up to 30
seconds.  after i click the send button, Xorg maxes out the CPU.  once
the e-mail gets sent, CPU returns back to normal.
