i'm not sure there's much point by now, given that this has been the
state of affairs for over 3 years. jboss 5.1.0 is out so i might as
well go with that, it just doesn't come in a .deb package but i can
live with that. it's just puzzling that, even to this day, others are
clearly trying what i tried and asking why it doesn't work:

so i'll just move on to jboss 5 and not worry about it.
