conky and wallpaper

You must have something which is wrong in your conky configuration
files which don't allow conky sitting in front of the wallpaper and
being transparent. 

Check the zillions of configuration files in:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=281865

and check if any of these will fix your problem or compare yours to them.
