Unable to ping my ubuntu machine

Hi,

I installed the latest ubuntu desktop images on a new  machine that I am
currently working on now.
I can ping my windows machine on the lan from ubuntu but can't do it the
other way.

Any advice? I searched the internet but most info relates to the older
versions.
