I didn't mean I have an AMD CPU, I just mentioned the architecture. In
Ubuntu (and Debian) repositories, the architecture is still marked
'amd64' and some people still do call it that way. I was refering to the
architecture that is now generally known as 'x86_64', and has been named
'EMT64' by Intel before, for understandable reasons...

Now that you mentioned it, it is possible the battery is the culprit...
It has failed some time ago and I did use the machine without it for
some time, but put it back when I saw the frequency scaling problem.
However, the problem remained, so I thought it wasn't it; perhaps the
defective battery does have the same effect?

Thanks
