That's the same card in this old laptop. I do have higher resolution in 8.04 
(1400x1050) but I had to manually edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and change the 
driver to "nv". That of course only gives me 2d but I have the higher 
resolutions available. Maybe something similar in your case?
