unusual sound problem on my samsung r440

I have a samsung r440. specs are; Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU  M 330  @
2.13GHz, 4G memory, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4500 series, ATI RV717/730 and a
samsung c561 sound card.
this laptop came with windows 7. i kept windows on the system and installed
ubuntu as a dual boot. the problem is that  sound works fine as long as i
dont boot into windows. if i boot into windows then boot back into ubuntu, i
loose sound on the ubuntu partition. sound was lost  for ubuntu until i
booted into lxde or xfce (dont know which one) environment, then reboot the
comp into ububtu. does anyone know what the problem might be and how to fix
it? thanks in advance.
