You obviously have other issues with the upgrade. I'd recommend that you
do the following, in order:

$ sudo apt-get install -f
$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get upgrade
$ sudo apt-get install -f
$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get upgrade

It may seem somewhat repetative, but give it a try... it certainly can't
hurt.
