Losing 10-key pad, then mouse function

Thanks. I looked, but it was already unchecked. Everything is now 
working fine since pressing Shift+NumLock. I would just like to know 
what I did to make that necessary as both the keyboard and mouse had 
been working perfectly normal up until yesterday. I was mighty glad to 
find so simple a solution, though.
