Have compiz?  Have ccsm?  If so, in ccsm under the, "Rotate Desktop
Cube," heading, the, "General," tab, enable, "Edge Flip
Pointer."  (...and Edge Flip Move if you want to drag windows to
another desktop/workspace.
For plain old Metacity I don't know how.
