I don't think grub makes USB drivers available at boot time but the
Plop Boot Manager does. Put it on a floppy or a cd/dvd and boot the
machine from the chosen medium. Select USB from the boot manager's
menu.
Install grub2 on the USB stick and arrange to boot the iso via the
loopback option. Ubuntu isos generally co-operate with this method
of booting.
