Yes, I can eat pasta (all hail FSM) using a pitchfork but a normal fork 
is way more convenient.

Backing up a partition or a disk is a lot different than a directory. As 
mentioned before, you cannot use dd on directories either!

Using dd to convert a tarball to an identical file with an img extension 
serves what purpose??
