Nathan, I do some REALLY high-end Java 3D stuff here, which is
intensively rendering graphics, sound --telephony and 3D spatial audio
effects. I USED to get Java straight from the horse's mouth, as you did.
I do not do that any longer as it always leads to tears. Just use the
Sun-java-jdk from the repo and thereby suffer ~far~ less. It works like
a charm. Nothing I do, so far, has clamored for me to upgrade. Your
problem is treading outside of the Ubuntu supported arena.
