Problem with ruby on ubuntu 10.04

Hi,
    I reloaded ubuntu 10.04 from scratch, and am trying to use wxruby with ruby1.8. When I do the proper syntax and try to run the file I get load errors. I searched on the web and found 1 possible solution to the problem, but it is really involved, and I'm afraid it might even break my install. This shouldn't be this hard in a linux environment.  Does anyone either know why this is so difficult, or when it might be resolved in ubuntu. This is much easyer in Windows which I hate to say because I'm a UNIX/linux lover.
