You could just set the list options for your subscription to web-only, 
and read the messages from the archive - that way you can still send to 
the list if you have a question.

Alternately, you can go to gmane.org, and use their news-to-mail gateway 
- you can read the mailing list as a newsgroup, when you want, as you 
want - without it cluttering up your inbox.  Very nice.
