Sorry but you've pretty much borked your install when
'nat at nat-desktop:~/firefox$ ./firefox -P' isn't working.

Here; start from scratch (with some apologies to Chris Jones):

Make sure you have a browser working & download Firefox again from:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/firefox.html

Remove nat at nat-desktop:~/firefox either via Nautilus or cli/terminal:

$ rm -r ~/firefox

Extract the downloaded firefox-3.6.8.tar.bz2 from Nautilius by right
clicking on the file and selecting 'Extract Here'. You now should have a
new ~/firefox (nat at nat-desktop:~/firefox). Go to that folder:

$ cd nat at nat-desktop:~/firefox
and run
$ ./firefox -P

and let me know the results.
