Every sysadmin does it a few times, just like I don't know much about
Ubuntu repos since I usually compile all my HTTPD software like Apache,
NGINX, PHP, Lighttp and all that (mostly because Ubuntu and Debian
pissed me off for the longest time with old PHP versions) so I forgot
most of Apache information directly from the repo.
You can can backup the entire system though and restore. Just tar the
system down, that's how we do system recoveries for clients who screw up
my hard work compiling stuff for them. Let me know if you want me to
send you the tar command to do it.
