In that case you can try this crude workaround
You will have to edit /boot/grub/grub.cfg
Find lines that have menuentry in them and modify the text in quotes that follow it
the Quoted text is what you see on the GRUB2 menu
That is all, the next time you reboot the machine you will see the changes on the GRUB menu.
Here is grub2 conf file
d*_*b &ru iamme@ .\~ $ cat /boot/grub/grub.cfg | grep menuentry
menuentry "Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.31-22-generic" {
menuentry "Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.31-22-generic (recovery mode)" {
menuentry "Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.31-14-generic" {
menuentry "Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.31-14-generic (recovery mode)" {
menuentry "Memory test (memtest86+)" {
menuentry "Memory test (memtest86+, serial console 115200)" {
menuentry "Windows NT/2000/XP (loader) (on /dev/sda2)" {
d*_*b &ru iamme@ .\~ $
--
d*_*b &ru Chelladurai
