Is nautilus working in garyk/garyk-laptop or not? *Please* be clear
here. Did you just get the error msg, or did nautilus actually start?

I've already told you .ICEauthority is located in your /home folder.
You've also verified where it is located on garyk
(/home/garyk/.ICEauthority).
Provide the output of (on your working garyk):
$ sudo fdisk -l
$ mount
$ apt-cache policy nautilus
and please tell me which partion is 'garyk' and which is 'gary'.
