I did not have to set the region on my DVD player. I can play DVDs from
any region. The only thing I did is installed libdvdread4 and CSS
(Content Scrambling System) for encrypted DVDs following this post -->

Works like a charm. I am using HandBrake to extract my DVDs. Not the
fastest but it does the job.
